The Lyons sourcesLyons original March blog used Chris Stone as a source: >>>>>>> However two former OSDL board members don’t agree. Chris Stone, former vice chairman of Novell, was on the OSDL board in 2003 and 2004. Stone says paying money to Groklaw “would not have been a good thing for OSDL. OSDL was meant to be above the fray, not investing in groups or web sites.” Stone says he would not have voted to approve payments to Groklaw. “I would not have done payments to the Software Freedom Law Center either,” he says. <<<<<<< I don't believe the statement that Stone served on the OSDL board is accurate. Novell joined OSDL in Dec 10, 2003, at which time Novell CTO Jeffrey T. Hawkins was appointed to the board (many press releases) Hawkins stepped down in February 2006, replaced by Markus Rex, the new CTO at Novell. When Chris Stone was bumped from Novell in November 2004, he got effusive praise from OSDL CEO Cohen. There was a working relationship with Stone at the center, but Stone's claim he was a board member appears to be an example of resume inflation. OSDL and its inheritor Free Standards Group have 990 Tax forms (year 2004 only) available on Guidestar. There are some interesting comparisons, including (to my mind) some decidedly unusual compensation for Stuart Cohen. The FSG budget was microscopic vis-a-vis OSDL; but, obviously, they were not paying Morton and Torvalds. |
